Don’t hesitate to ask for more, BL series creator tells audience

#KilosKabataan Episode Highlight

The Filipino audience should not be afraid to ask for more from creators and producers of boys’ love (BL) series, said Rod Marmol who wrote “Quaranthings: The Series”.

Speaking to NYK’s youth-oriented talkshow “Kilos Kabataan” on Friday, Marmol said consumers of BL series, especially the LGBTQ+ community, should put out more conversations and criticisms about the emerging genre.

“Sana huwag kayong matakot na manghingi pa, to ask for more, kasi nasimulan na natin. Huwag kayong matakot na manghingi pa ng representasyon, huwag kayong matakot na mamuna,” he said.

“Kasi as much as LGBT rin kaming mga nagkukwento, napakalawak ng community natin so ang daming dapat pag-usapan. So just message us, message them, maging honest lang kayo and promise makikinig sila kasi lahat tayo excited sa breakthrough na ito,” added Marmol.

Meanwhile, Miss Trans Global 2020 and also a BL series supporter Mela Habijan expressed her message to the creators of BL series in the country.

Asked about what she thinks of the current Pinoy BL series, Habijan said while there is still room for improvement in telling such stories, she believes “we are in a good place of telling LGBTQ+ love.”

I’d like to believe that everything is a process and things won’t happen overnight,” said Habijan

“I’m very happy that in the Philippines alam mo sobrang lakas ng BL because they are written, directed and produced by members of the LGBTQ+ members in the Philippines kaya I think mas mayroong sincerity pagdating sa storytelling,” she added.
