Healthcare workers are considered “heroes” for their commitment to save lives amid the COVID-19 pandemic, but even them are facing the “second pandemic.”
Filipino Nurses United said nurses are fighting another battle which is the “infectious low morale pandemic.”
Frontliners undergo difficulties because of extreme pressure for they play a crucial role in saving lives of the patients because of the virus.
Nurse Julius Lapasaran knows the struggle of every healthcare worker and he is doing a very heartfelt gesture to show appreciation to them.
Lapasaran treats his fellow frontliners with lovely cupcakes as a sign of gratitude and appreciation for taking good care of sick patients amid pandemic.

“Most Frontliners undergo difficulties in these trying times, it wouldn’t hurt if I make them feel that they are indeed appreciated in everything that they do. Kahit na sa pa-simpleng snacks lang para sa kanila,” Lapasaran said.
Lapasaran said it is fulfilling to help his fellow Filipino frontliners even if he is now based in the United States.
The gesture was inspired by the movement of “Kakampinks” or supporters of Vice President and presidential aspirant Leni Robredo.
“I was inspired by the movement of other Kakampink. I was moved by their small actions and deeds. Talaga, walang maliit o malaking ambag… lahat mahalaga,” Lapasaran said.

Lapasaran is not only boosting the low morale of healthcare workers but also helping the local bakeshops that were affected because of the pandemic.
“By supporting local bake shops in producing these cupcakes we are also helping boost our local economy, sino-sino pa bang magtutulungan kundi tayo-tayo pa rin… Dapat magkusa tayong tumulong at mag-alok ng ano pang mai-aambag natin para sa kapwa Pilipino natin,” Lapasaran said.
Any simple gesture of kindness and compassion really matters in this time of darkness and negativity, according to Lapasaran.
“Anything that will make their hearts and unburden them emotionally, kahit man lang ma-feel nila na someone is appreciating them,” he said.
Lapasaran also has something to say to Filipino voters in the 2022 elections.
“Follow your heart in choosing the leaders. Di lang basta gusto, dapat ma-justify natin bakit natin sila gusto i-boto. Check their previous track records, check the things na nagawa na nila at paano nila ito nagawa. Huwag magbulag bulagan,” he said.
It is also important to choose a leader who has the 5 C’s: competence, conscience, commitment, compassion, character/courage, according to him.
Lapasaran is a US-based Filipino nurse and former educator at the Ateneo De Zamboanga University. He is also a lecturer for nurse license examination reviews.
