Polio, a crippling and potentially fatal disease, still persists in some parts of the world. While significant progress has been made over the years, there are communities where the battle against this debilitating virus is ongoing. The good news is that we have the power to make a difference and eradicate polio once and for all.
Rotary International made the eradication of polio its top priority in 1979, and began a multi-year project to immunise six million children in the Philippines in 1979. However, ending polio is indeed a complex and challenging task, but significant progress has been made over the years.
“It has been 4 years since we endured the summits of Mt. Mataripis with 720 Meters Above Sea Level, Mt. Palo, Mt. Cayabu and Mt Maynuba. So as we embark the 5th Mountain in Tanay Rizal. We would like to launch the 2nd Flagship Project of The Rotaract Club of Rizal Centro "Akyat-Kontra Polio" A Legacy Club Project during Champion Year.” -PP Nicole Melos, Champion President
Akyat-Kontra Polio was launched in 2019 during the term of Champion President Nicole Melos. The goal of this is to raise fund and to show passion and inspire determination to one another in eradicating such a deadly disease. This was the largest initiative in the Rotaract District 3800 to support Rotary’s mission of ending polio. Since then, with the help of our partners and joiners, we are continuously donating to the Rotary Foundation.
This year we conquered another mountain and gave an opportunity for our partners to donate in The Rotary Foundation through their Registration. A total of 10 Rotaract Clubs, Headed by Rotaract Club of Rizal Centro, together with Rotaract Clubs of Malabon Highlands, Malabon Pioneer, Mandaluyong Premier, Metro Iloilo, Millennial Sampaguita Grace Park, Ortigas Center, Rizal Premier, San Juan Supreme, and Valenzuela Legacy with 45 individuals joined the hike. With more clubs and other organizations joining the fight, a more aggressive approach could be taken by immunizing more children on a scale larger than ever before.
Together, we can overcome the remaining obstacles and create a world where every child is free from the threat of polio. Your dedication fuels our collective determination to achieve this shared goal, and I am confident that, with advocates like you leading the charge, we will see the end of polio in our lifetime.
